LIMBS was originally founded at LeTourneau University by Biomedical Engineering Professor Dr. Roger Gonzalez, and went by the acronym LEGS (LeTourneau Engineering Global Solutions). The work of the original student teams has made the current work by LIMBS today possible. As a result, LIMBS will continue to sponsor student teams at selected universities in an endeavor known as “LIMBS’ sponsored projects”. These projects will include, but not be limited to, continued research and development work in the field of low cost prosthetics such as:
- A low-cost foot
- Socket Technology
- Pediatric knee-joints based on the LIMBS Knee model
Students will be given project parameters and design specifications and a modest budget by the LIMBS staff at the beginning of the school year, which will culminate with an end of the year presentation to the LIMBS staff. If the work done by these student teams appears promising, LIMBS will work with them to further develop the projects through clinical trials at one of our international training center sites.
